You are a very active guy that seems to participate in non traditional exercise, what would you say is your fitness regime?
First off, HOLA! And thank you for the opportunity to be in your blog!
Okay now we can get to the point. You are 100% right about nontraditional exercises. I just started rock climbing in January of this year and I’ve become fully addicted and committed to it. I do a lot of indoor climbing, but on top of that I like to lift weights in the gym and also do kettlebell workouts. So, during the week, I might stick to a more traditional weight lifting regime (back, chest, legs) but I’ll also mix in the climbing and kettlebells along with those workouts too! I like to keep my body kind of confused on what workout will come next so it learns to adapt to anything I throw at it. Like skim-boarding, surfing, and even Survivor ;)
As a contestant on Survivor 33 what physical advantage do you think you had over some of the others?
I was already a super active guy before I got the call, I work out 6 days a week—whether it’s through weights or some other type of physical activity. So I was already used to the strain that the game puts on your body (besides the no eating part, of course). That was rough at first but you get used to it. As for the challenges, being strong and fit helped a lot and I also think being an active person helped enormously too. I’m smaller, faster, and strong enough to handle my own, so being able to fit through small things was an advantage.
Do you follow a particular diet?
Honestly, I just like to eat healthy. I’ve grown up on healthy foods like quinoa, couscous, vegetables, and a bunch of Peruvian food. Thanks mom ! So I love good food for you. I stay away from McDonald’s and other fast foods. I’d rather be full after I eat instead of craving more and more (I feel like I’m never full if I eat fast food). Home cooked meals are where it’s at!
What motivates you to live healthy?
I just love being active and being able to do anything life throws at me. I don’t ever want to be prevented from doing something just because I wasn’t strong enough or in good enough shape for it. Plus, I’d rather live longer, especially if I’m going to have a family one day. Taking applications! ;)
What food did you crave or thought about the most while on survivor?
Honestly, the game makes you crazy out there and I was craving Poutine of all things. If you don’t know what that is, it’s a Canadian dish made of French fries, gravy, and cheese curds. It’s lods of fat and calories. I wasn’t craving healthy food at all. I craved things like pizza, as well, but that’s a normal day-to-day craving anyways, who am I kidding.
What is next for Jay?
